António Alves
Lisbon, 1955
From an early age, António Alves developed a deep connection with photography. From a childhood in which he was the one being portrayed, he moved on to a youth in which he became the one behind the camera. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and competitions, earning a first prize awarded by Eduardo Gageiro, one of Portugal’s great masters of photography.
Over the years, he tirelessly roamed the streets of Lisbon, taking part in photographic marathons organized by the Lisbon City Council and the Parish Council of Carnide — experiences that reflected the enthusiasm and joy with which he embraced the art of photography.
Although a long pause followed — the result of professional and personal commitments spanning more than two decades — his passion for photography never faded. When he finally returned to it, he did so with a renewed gaze and deeper dedication, engaging more actively in contests and exhibitions.
Today, António Alves seeks to capture unique moments and situations, translating into images the stories he observes with attention and sensitivity. His photography is an exercise in seeing and storytelling — a way of perceiving the world and narrating it through light.
