João Vasco Casanova began painting at the age of five or six and maintained an intense practice during his first 25 years. He studied at the António Arroio School in Lisbon and participated in several group exhibitions. His early works were marked by strong emotional and social content, addressing themes such as war, hunger, and injustice. After this intense period, Casanova stopped painting for almost 25 years, a hiatus that became essential for his artistic maturation.

He returned to painting about a year and a half ago, with a more serene and liberated approach. His current work celebrates everyday beauty, featuring loose, spontaneous brushstrokes that invite contemplation. Light, reflections, and fleeting moments are central to his art, offering a pause from the noise of the world.
