WELCOME TO ART GALLERY THE ONE

Collection: Maria de Freitas, visual artist

Artist featured by Art Gallery The One in a collection.

Maria de Freitas in paintings, drawings and tiles or Mizé, the tap dancer, was born in Lisbon in 59. She studied Fire Arts at the  Decorativ School of Arts António Arroio, model drawings at the National Society of Fine Arts in Lisbon, painting at the Arte-ilimitada school and worked on projects with several painters in Lisbon, such as Paulo Guilherme, Romualdo, Soares Branco, among others, where she added training in the arts of painting and drawings. In the 80s, she studied tap in Lisbon with Michel, then in New York and Paris with the most prestigious teachers of this form of dance and was co-founder of the 1st tap-dance group As Meninas de Lisboa, as a dancer and choreographer.

She has exhibited regularly since the 90s, in solo and collective exhibitions, on tiles, where she began painting and later on canvas. Influenced by symbolism, movement, physical, mental and spiritual journeys, she also thinks that it is largely through dance that the brush moves.

She created the action-painting performance "Voyeur de Atelier" with the dancer Catarina Ascensão, in 2010/2011. Painting, dance, music, poetry and tap dancing. Voyeur was presented at Casa dos Dias de Água, Estefânia, at Galeria Paula Cabral, Príncipe Real, at Prémio Utopia Art, Amadora and at Livraria Ler Devagar at LX Factory.
