Rita Maia e Silva is an intuitive and self-taught artist born in Lisbon, Portugal.
She has studied Modern Languages and Literature, completed a superior Piano
course, and got a degree in musical training and education. Currently, Rita is a
teacher at the National Conservatory School of Music of Lisbon.
She has also published a novel and several short stories and collaborated in
collective projects, including writing theatre plays. Painting emerged as her
latest form of expression, coming into focus at a more mature stage of her life,
with her artistic journey beginning in 2023.
Her observation and interest in human relationships are reflected in her works
as a central theme, woven into a rich tapestry of visual expression.
Rita’s musical background significantly shapes her perspective on the world,
where musical tones directly correlate with colors, and the architectural
structure of music influences her artwork in terms of composition, balance,
rhythm, dynamics, movement, chromaticism, and the harmonization of all
elements in visual art.
Rita has participated in several online exhibitions with Arteom Gallery and The
Holy Art Gallery, both collective and individual, and was part of a group
exhibition in Barcelona in July 2024. She also made an online exhibition with
the Eunoia - The Curators Collective, titled “Echoes of Broken Souls”, about the
role of arts in solidarity, justice and peace.
She was awarded with a certificate of artistic achievement by the prestigious
Luxembourg Art Prize 2024 edition, and with a Masterful Mind Award, for the
Artist of the Year, given by The Circle Foundation for the Arts.
She made her first solo exhibition, in January 2025, at the City Art Gallery
Lisbon, and in April she made another solo exhibition called "The World inside
me".
Rita Maia e Silva aims to inspire introspection, inviting viewers to contemplate
the depth of existence and uncover connections in the interrelation of all things.
With a vision rooted in exploring the human experience, she takes the audience
on a journey of discovery, where each brushstroke becomes a gateway to a
world of infinite possibilities and perceptions.
