Sonja Yaso is a multidisciplinary artist with an international career spanning fashion, beauty, and contemporary art. Discovered as a fashion model in Germany at the age of 14, she worked as a runway model for haute couture fashion houses across Europe, including Germany, Italy, and England.
She later moved to New York, where she worked as a makeup artist, beauty editor, and art director, contributing to magazines and creative campaigns.
Currently based in Lisbon, Portugal, Sonja focuses on mixed-media collage, using imagery and materials from her own professional archive. Her work explores beauty, identity, racism, power, and the hidden realities of the fashion industry, combining bold colours, textures, and provocative compositions.
Her work is held in collections associated with Rihanna, Maximilian von Bismarck, Prince Alexander of Schaumburg-Lippe, and the Moroccan Royal Family, and has also been featured in connection with a Kanye West music video.
