WELCOME TO ART GALLERY THE ONE

Collection: Susana Igreja, visual artist

Artist featured by Art Gallery The One in a collection.

 Lisbon, Portugal, 1979
Susana is a multidisciplinary Portuguese artist with an academic background in Biomedical Sciences, having completed a PhD in this field at the University of London. She began painting in 2020 and, in 2024, decided to fully dedicate herself to artistic creation, exploring the intersection between art and science.

Inspired by the microscopic universe, her work brings images of human cell microscopy to oil painting, complementing them with immersive and sensory experiences that promote reflection, well-being, and a new perception of the invisible.

Among her most notable works are the series "Tight Junctions" and "In Vivo", which reinterpret scientific images of human cells, including scenarios associated with diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis. Her painting "The Moonlight" was selected as the cover for the book Humane Infrastructures, to be published by MIT Press in 2025, showcasing the visual and conceptual impact of her artistic approach.

Additionally, Susana has participated in international projects such as the Global Arts in Medicine Fellowship, where she collaborated with artists and healthcare professionals from diverse cultures to explore the dimensions of care through art.

Her work seeks to give visibility to the invisible, inviting the audience to immerse themselves in narratives that combine technique, emotion, and sensory discovery.
