Collection: Miguel Machado, visual artist

With a career that brings together History, Art History, Architecture, Cultural Heritage and the Visual Arts, his academic and professional background has developed between Portugal and the United Kingdom.

He holds a degree in History and Art History, specialising in Architecture and Painting, from Portucalense University, Porto, where he completed his final thesis on 18th-century Architecture in Porto. He subsequently obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Modern History and Politics from the University of Coimbra and a Postgraduate Diploma in Museum Studies from the University of Leicester, UK. His education was further complemented by studies in cultural management, heritage, intellectual and artistic property, and the art market, including training at Christie's and Sotheby's in London.

Alongside his professional career, he developed a practice as a visual artist, taking part in numerous solo and group exhibitions since 2001 across Portugal, the United Kingdom and Germany. His work has been presented in galleries, cultural institutions, universities, hotels and private venues.

His exhibitions include “Cores do Sul no Norte” at the UNESCO Centre in Porto, “Portuguese Colours” at the Portuguese Language Department of the University of Oxford, as well as exhibitions at the Consulate General of Portugal in London and various cultural and artistic venues in Porto, Lisbon and London. Two of his paintings are part of the UNESCO Centre's private collection.

His painting is closely connected to his background in Art History and his interest in culture, heritage, identity and memory, with colour serving as one of his principal means of artistic expression.

His artistic activity continues today, with recent presentations of his work in Portugal, including exhibitions at Atelier Interfaces, Matosinhos, in 2024 and 2026.

His multidisciplinary journey brings together art, history, architecture and cultural heritage, creating an artistic practice deeply connected to observation, memory and the expressive power of colour.
