Monica Silva. Born in Oporto in 1972. Lives and works in Vila do Conde.

Passionate about art and travel, she has always painted as a self-taught artist. Her academic background is in the field of tourism, and she worked for over 20 years in an airline, allowing her to indulge in her passion for travel.

In 2011, she attended private painting classes and started painting more frequently. After the sudden death of her husband in 2018, painting became a daily necessity, a way to transmute her pain and emotions.

In 2019, she joined the Continuing Education program at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Oporto, completing the courses 'Basic Painting Techniques' and 'The Human Figure in Contemporary Art.'

She paints narratives, often framed in the feminine world, aiming to describe feelings and emotions provoked by the vicissitudes of life. Most often, these are anonymous women, not self-portraits, reflecting her feelings—drama and pain, but above all, love, hope, and strength.

The identification with these emotions often arises from reading a book or a poem, so she likes to accompany her work with references to these sources of inspiration.
