Madeleine McHale (b. 2002, New York) is a Lisbon-based artist whose practice explores the limits, edges, and boundaries of the body through drawing, painting, and photography. Drawing and painting since childhood, she recently completed an MFA in Contemporary Drawing at Paris College of Art in Paris, following a BBA from Northeastern University in Boston and a Certificate of Continuing Education from Rhode Island School of Design.
Grounded in an interest in technical anatomy, McHale’s practice investigates the systems and structures that organize the human figure. Through processes of reduction, fragmentation, and removal, she examines what remains when recognizable anatomy is stripped away, revealing the intrinsic structures of the body and questioning how we define and qualify the “body.”
Her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions including Anti-Disciplinary at Bastille Design Center, Paris (2026), and Printemps du Dessins at Drawing Now, Paris (2025). In 2024, she participated in a four-day residency at PAF – Performing Arts Forum in Ramecourt, France.
